Recently, Korean movie <War of the Arrows> was released. It was a great, successful movie. Many people went out to see the movie and soon the <War of the Arrows> became a hot issue. The <War of the Arrows> became an issue because not only the movie was good but also it has been argued that the movie has pirated the hollywood movie <Apocalypto>.
Both movies have many similarities. First both movies has the same genre, they are both ‘Chasing Action,’ movies. It has been said that custom of chasing action made both movies to look like each other. But some people still argues that they are just too similar.

Next both movies have the same reason why the main characters are after chasing his enemy and then also why being chased by his enemy. The main character of <War of the Arrows> chases his enemy because his sister is kidnapped, and the main character of <Apocalypto> Chases his enemy beacuse his wife and child is kidnapped. This same structure makes both movies similar in some aspects.
For last, the specific scene the spectators are criticizing is the scene which animal, considered as the guardian of main characters tribe, suddenly comes out from nowhere and help the main character from danger. For <Apocalypto> it was jaguar which helped the main character, And for <War of the Arrows> it was tiger.
Both movies also have differences. First <War of the Arrows> is based on historical fact that has occured in Korea. It is called Byeong Ja Ho ran in english Second Manchu invasion of Korea(병자호란). It was a sudden attack by Chinese. Also tiger is symbol of Korea. But the tribe of <Apocalypto> is just fiction. So it is more easier for Korean fans to create bond of Sympathy by <War of the Arrows>

The director of <War of the Arrows> also agreed that he was inspired by <Apocalypto>. But he said that he didn’t pirate <Apocalypto>. He says that he put Korean color into the movie. He emphasizes that <War of the Arrows> is Korean movie and its more easier for Korean fans to win sympathy by <War of the Arrows>. He wants the fans to consider <War of the Arrows> as an hommage.

Many people still argue that <War of the Arrows> pirated hollywood. But these days many Korean movies are pirating hollywood movies in the name of ‘Hommage’. This situation is making Korean movies to loose its own color. For me, <War of the Arrows> isn’t just a hommage. This movie mixed Korean color into the hollywood movie by inserting historical fact into a chasing action movie. This way the movie sustained Korea movies own color.
